Jeff,
I don’t know what the SE Florida club policies are, but I worked at a 300k initiation SW Florida joint and members could carry their clubs. Something tells me if Tiger and buds wanted to play golf with a Trolley they could. The thinking was if you pay that much for a golf club, you can do whatever the heck you want. Totally understand not wanting a caddie due to privacy. I don’t know, but it would be great if more Golf pro’s and touring pro’s used trolleys or carried on there “for fun” rounds!

Ben CowanKeymasterThe price is definitely overrated! I think the 3rd and 9th are all world holes and the rest are all very good. All this without any water in play is a very remarkable design imo. I feel the greens offer many creative shoots into them which many courses can’t say.
Ben CowanKeymasterTim,
I played with you at the Motor Gathering this past fall and you had a full set. I only tee it with folks that are using a complete set. One must be playing with a full deck of cards for me to take them seriously….
Ben CowanKeymasterBrian,
As a native Toledoian, that is a great idea.
Cal,
Will do.
I’m thinking about interviewing some keepers on walking and managing grass. Maybe some club Pro’s (Public and Private) and there responses from golfers in regards to walking would be interesting.
Ben CowanKeymasterDonald Ross could route a course and never set foot on the property so much better then the majority of courses built in the last 60 years.

Ben CowanKeymasterBrian,
I agree with everything you wrote about those 3. I have also played Port Huron a gem and great low key club NE of Detroit. Some really cool holes in the Dunes area.
Plum Hollow is in a declining area N or Detroit and has such great bones. So sad they keep trying a CC model as the course deteriorates.
I listed all the Alison only courses in N America in OP, leaving out the ones Colt was involved with thanks to Tony’s great book, which I recommend to anyone interested in C&A, a chapter on them in his club book.
Hopefully TWGS own Gary Nelson will get an invite to either of those Alison courses for he is always visiting Japan getting to play golf and ski on those business trips.
Ben CowanKeymasterMyron,
I didn’t write any of those. I need to figure out how to tweak Article/Course reviews individually. Rob Rigg did.
I have a 3w, 2i-6i in those areaas. Thanks for posting.
Ben CowanKeymaster1. Battle Creek- About 4 falls ago a buddy and I played here on our afternoon round of a late fall 36er. We played in 3.5 hrs and teed off on the wrong hole 2 times and still loved every minute of it. The land is gently rolling and is ideal for a walking course. The club is so very down to earth and this gem is located only a mile off i-94. After more plays I have come to learn that 3.25-3.5 hr rounds are the norm. A great walk, WPJ gem, and ideal location.
2. Ocala Gc- This was referred to me on a list my mom’s friend gave me for Florida courses. Like a drug addiction I can’t wait to tee it here every time i visit Florida. Great smooth elevation change especially for Florida. You will actually see some people walking this course (shocking for Florida). I have met some really nice locals here. My buddy Dan Jones wrote a great book on the history of this course called ”Muni”. Really good read.
3. Radrick Farms- The land is about as perfect as one can have for an in-land site. The non-descript entrance and low key vibe of the place is great. I’d say 70% of the folks walk. I love going out in the evening and when on the range you can pick up a game with a stranger rather easily. Twilight rounds are the best at RF.

Ben CowanKeymasterEric,
Thanks for your generosity. We have had a Walking Gathering a few springs ago at Holston Hills and Lookout Mtn. Two great courses.
The former CC of Columbus HP is a member of TWGS and we were supposed to of had a Walking event there a few falls ago but it fell through. Hope to get one there in the future, Toledo’s Drew Rogers did reno/resto work there and I’ve heard great things!
Ben CowanKeymasterEric,
Dormie was just purchased last week. The same owners as Ballyhack and few other courses they own. I will be curious to see if they fix the walking paths. The course plans to be private in the future when they get enough members.
Ben CowanKeymasterPhil,
That is exactly the same scenario I had with Greywalls. We ended up getting there late in the day and cartballed a twilight round. When on the cart i was like how can anyone walk this course. The cart path takes you away and you miss so much of the course. I walked it 2 more times and walked it after a MGC am round and it was no problem but not easy. The front 9 routing is disjointed because it is a much more extreme site then TR.
Ben CowanKeymasterPhil,
I think i will look into this. I wouldn’t let one No detour you. Plus SP seems like it is doing everything possible to tank itself. Not that this idea is a game changer.
Ben CowanKeymasterThe walk from 8 green to 9 tee at Greywalls, but the enjoyable walk is worth it!
Ben CowanKeymasterRon,
Great post! My father in law i converted. He just basically played in a work league in which everyone rides. I think he likes the experience more, but I’ll have to ask him. The funny thing is the work league disbanded. He works at a large company and getting people to commit once a week to a league is so difficult these days.
Ben CowanKeymasterBrian,
Private clubs make lots off carts. I see most public courses today, have cart fees built into their greens fees. So many don’t even charge for carts these days.
