Award sponsored by The MacKenzie Golf Bag Company

Portland, OR (February 1, 2013) – Tom Doak and Renaissance Golf Design have received the “2012 Walking Golfer of the Year” award for his passionate commitment to the walking game of golf. Members of The Walking Golfers Society chose Mr. Doak and his team at Renaissance due to their promotion of the walking game through golf course design.

Mr. Doak has constructed many top rated courses that are also excellent walks including – Pacific Dunes, Ballyneal, Old Macdonald, and Streamsong Blue in the US and Cape Kidnappers (New Zealand),

Barnbougle Dunes (Tasmania) and The Renaissance Club (Scotland) outside the US.

“Tom and Renaissance are one of the top modern golf course architecture firms, and care deeply about walking golfers based on their design history,” said Rob Rigg, founder of The Walking Golfers Society. “We are honored that Tom has accepted the award for the 2012 Walking Golfer of the Year and we are very excited to have presented him, and his team, with the award at the Renaissance Cup held at Streamsong Golf Resort.””We are proud to have received the 2012 Walking Golfer of the Year. As I mentioned to Rob during an interview in 2009, our goal is to ensure that every course is as walkable as possible. We do this by building green to tee transitions that are as short as possible. This has become a bit of a lost art in modern golf course design because routing the course becomes more challenging as you work to use the best elements of a property while avoiding too many blind or partially blind tee shots.”

Mr. Doak and Renaissance are the first design firm to win “The Walking Golfer of the Year.” In 2009, the award was presented to Mike Keiser on behalf of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, in 2010 the award went to The Evans Scholars Foundation sponsored by the Western Golf Association, and in 2011 Jim Colton won the award

Doak has worked on some of the finest properties in the world, and justifiably so, he creates amazing golfing experiences as seen here on the 4th at Pacific Dunes

A leather plaque, created by Oregon craftsman Larry Eisenbach of Raygun Digital Artistry, and a MacKenzie Walker leather golf bag, crafted by The MacKenzie Golf Bag Company, were presented to Tom Doak at Streamsong Golf Resort on January 29th, 2013 by Rob Rigg, who represented The Walking Golfers Society, and Todd Rohrer, from MacKenzie Golf Bags.
